Backup & Disaster Recovery

Could you actually restore from your backup today?

Microsoft protects its platform. Protecting your data inside that platform is your responsibility. We put real backup around Microsoft 365 and Azure, and we prove it works before you need it to.

Tested

Restores are sampled and verified on a schedule, with the evidence given to you.

RPO/RTO

Recovery point and recovery time objectives agreed in writing per workload.

Rehearsed

Failover is practised on an annual cycle, so the first live test is not a real incident.

The gap nobody expects

Microsoft protects the service. Your data is your job.

Microsoft guarantees the availability of the service. Microsoft does not guarantee recovery of data your own staff delete, that ransomware encrypts, or that a departing employee wipes on the way out. Retention policies and recycle bins expire. Once they do, the data is gone. That gap is closed with proper third-party backup of Exchange Online, SharePoint, OneDrive and Teams - and with backup of Azure workloads that is monitored and verified.

What you get

Included with Backup & Disaster Recovery

Microsoft 365 backup

Exchange Online, SharePoint, OneDrive and Teams backed up independently of Microsoft retention, with granular restore down to a single item.

Azure workload backup

Virtual machines, Azure Files, SQL and managed databases protected through Azure Backup with immutable, geo-redundant vaults.

Ransomware-resistant copies

Immutable and soft-delete-protected backups so an attacker who reaches your environment cannot also destroy your recovery point.

Site Recovery failover

Azure Site Recovery replicates critical machines to a second region, with an orchestrated failover you have actually tested.

Monitored, not assumed

Every backup job is monitored. A failure raises a ticket and is chased, rather than sitting in a report nobody opens.

A written recovery plan

Who does what, in what order, with what credentials - documented, kept current, and accessible when your systems are not.

How we set it up

Recovery objectives first, technology second

Before choosing any product we work out how much data each workload can afford to lose and how long it can be unavailable. Those two numbers set the design - and they are business decisions, not IT ones.

  • Workloads ranked by how badly the business hurts when they stop
  • A recovery point objective and recovery time objective agreed per workload
  • Retention set to your legal, tax and contractual obligations
  • Restore testing scheduled, sampled and evidenced
  • An annual failover rehearsal with a written outcome
  • Recovery runbook kept somewhere reachable during an outage

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Not in the way people assume. Microsoft maintains service availability and provides limited retention windows and recycle bins. It does not offer a long-term, point-in-time backup you control. Once retention expires, deleted data is unrecoverable. That is why third-party Microsoft 365 backup exists and why we recommend it in every case.

Sample restores are performed on a scheduled cycle for every protected workload, and we give you the evidence. A full disaster recovery rehearsal runs annually on managed plans. A backup nobody has restored from is an assumption.

It depends entirely on the workload and what you have paid for. A single mailbox item is minutes. A virtual machine from backup is typically hours. A replicated machine failing over with Site Recovery can be minutes. We agree these numbers with you up front rather than discovering them during an incident.

Yes. Backup vault region is a design choice we make deliberately, including for the geo-redundant secondary copy. We document it so your auditors have a clear answer.
